Calculate your life path number
Enter your date of birth. The calculation follows this guide: day, month and year reduced separately, with master numbers 11, 22 and 33 kept.

What Is a Life Path Number?
A life path number is calculated from your full date of birth. In the Pythagorean method used here, reduce the day, month and year separately, add those results and reduce again, keeping 11, 22 and 33 when they appear. The calculator below follows this rule.
The interpretations belong to a symbolic tradition. You can check the arithmetic; linking the result to personality or destiny is not a scientific assessment. Birth time and location are not needed for this exercise.
Life path is one field in a numerology chart. Name numbers use letters and should be recorded separately.
How to Calculate Your Life Path Number
The calculation is straightforward, but there’s one important detail: you should reduce each component of your date (day, month, and year) separately before adding them together. This ensures that master numbers are preserved when they appear.
Step by Step
- Separate your date of birth into three parts: day, month, and year.
- Reduce each part to a single digit (or master number).
- Add the three results together and reduce again if necessary.
Worked Example: Date of Birth October 27, 1985
Day: 27
2 + 7 = 9
Month: October (10)
1 + 0 = 1
Year: 1985
1 + 9 + 8 + 5 = 23
2 + 3 = 5
Final sum:
9 + 1 + 5 = 15
1 + 5 = 6
This person’s life path number is 6.
Another Example: March 11, 1992
Day: 11
11 is a master number - it stays as 11.
Month: March (3)
Already a single digit: 3.
Year: 1992
1 + 9 + 9 + 2 = 21
2 + 1 = 3
Final sum:
11 + 3 + 3 = 17
1 + 7 = 8
The life path number is 8. (Note: if the final sum had been 11, 22, or 33, it would remain as a master number.)

Meaning of Each Life Path Number
The following themes turn traditional associations into questions. They do not necessarily describe you. Record an example that fits and another that contradicts the interpretation instead of forcing your experience to match a number.
Life Path 1 - Initiative
What small project could you begin without imposing your wishes on others?
Life Path 2 - Cooperation
How could you hear another perspective without ignoring your own needs?
Life Path 3 - Communication
Which idea would you like to express more clearly?
Life Path 4 - Organisation
Which routine helps you, and which has become too rigid?
Life Path 5 - Exploration
What small change could you try with the resources available?
Life Path 6 - Care
How could you support someone without taking on every responsibility?
Life Path 7 - Investigation
What information is missing before you reach a conclusion?
Life Path 8 - Management
How do you allocate time and resources according to your priorities?
Life Path 9 - Perspective
Which commitment would you like to finish before starting another?
Master Numbers: 11, 22, and 33
In this method, 11, 22 and 33 stop the reduction when they appear at a calculation stage. You may see 11/2, 22/4 and 33/6, preserving both the master number and its single-digit reduction. These are conventions, not a measure of someone’s value or spiritual obligations.
See our guide to 11, 22 and 33 for the traditional terminology.
Why do calculators sometimes disagree?
The order of operations can change which master numbers are retained. For January 1, 1980, this method uses day 1, month 1 and year 1 + 9 + 8 + 0 = 18, reduced to 9. The total is 1 + 1 + 9 = 11. Adding every digit in the date at once gives 20, then 2.
Both methods produce the same single-digit reduction, but only the first retains 11 in this example. Record the method when comparing results instead of assuming that someone necessarily made an arithmetic mistake.
Life Path Compatibility
A pair of numbers does not determine whether two people will have a healthy relationship. Communication, respect and actual behaviour are more useful evidence. Do not use the calculation to exclude someone or justify controlling them.
To explore the symbolism together, each person can choose a question from the list and answer with a concrete example. The exercise should support a conversation without assuming you know what the other person feels.
Frequently asked questions about life path numbers
Does my life path change each year?
No, if you keep the same birth date and method. The personal year number is a different calculation that includes the year you want to examine.
Does my name enter this calculation?
No. Your name is used for expression, soul urge and personality. Adding letters and a date together does not reproduce this calculator’s life path method.
Does the number predict a career or event?
This calculation provides no basis for guaranteeing career, relationship or health outcomes. You can use it as a writing prompt while basing decisions on concrete information.
Do I need to share my full birth date?
No. The calculator runs in your browser. You can also follow the worked examples on paper without publishing personal information in comments.
To organise the separate fields, follow our complete numerology chart example, with each calculation recorded individually.
